THE CAFE SERIES :: No. 1 :: LUV1 July 5- July 31, 2012
A solo exhibition of James Kelewae aka Luv1
Red Eye Cafe, 94 Walnut Street, Montclair, NJ
Luv One is a Street Artist and Muralist living in NJ. He is a graduate from SVA and member of SAGE Collective and Albus Cavus. Luv's work has been published in Cornell West's Autobiography "Brother West", in the spray paint section of the Utrecht catalog twice, Mercer Business Magazine, and featured in local papers Home News Tribune, Trentonian, Jersey City Independent, Jersey Journal, and the Trenton Times. The artist has contributed to numerous mural works in the state of New Jersey and greater surrounding areas.
Before concentrating his efforts on the streets, Luv One (James J. Kelewae) had been designing and illustrating for almost a decade. In 2002 his life took a different course; he got out of commercial art feeling it had left him uninspired and unfulfilled. He took a job as a Barista and in off hours began to experiment with public art. Years pass, James becomes a Store Manager and his street moniker LUV1 has been a steady driving force for public art in New Jersey: at events like Jersey Fresh Jam, State Theater's Urban Arts Festival, Center for Contemporary Art's Anti Gala, Hopewell Tour Des Arts, in daycares and walls in the communities of Trenton, and as an artist creating custom works for music videos, photo shoots, and private residences.
