"Once a symbol of knowledge, books are becoming an anachronism in today's world. Of course progress is inevitable, but are we taking the time to weigh in with our choices of what we embrace and what is discarded? Technology is an immediate means to an end, but there are sacrifices to pay. Isn't there a way to integrate the virtual world with an appreciation of our very human senses and the awesome force that is Nature? And can we please consider the irreversible consequences of our human foibles? The Dodo no longer has any say. Yes technology has contributed in many ways but it's only a tool. It can fight a better war but can't end one. iPad and eye contact need to find a way to coexist or I fear the quality of life on this planet will diminish."
Mary Jean Canziani has a BA in Fine Arts with a concentration in printmaking. She has worked in graphic and textile design, visual merchandising and currently owns and operates "Arts for the Home", a mural and faux painting business.
